The cultural wolf
The Cultural Ambassador
“The Cultural Wolf,” DJ Buka is the product of music and traditional African culture fused together. DJ Buka, is one of the top ranking Afrobeats DJs in the world.
THE JOURNEY BEGAN IN 1998, AS BUKA OSONDU, KNOWN AS DJ BUKA, WAS NOT ONLY THE YOUNGEST ON THE DANCE FLOOR BUT ALSO THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. HIS LATE GOD-FATHER COMMANDER IKE NNAM WAS A RENOWNED DJ IN THE TRI-STATE AREA AND ONE OF BUKA’S BIGGEST INSPIRATIONS. MICHAEL JACKSON AND FLAVOUR ARE ALSO AMONG ENTERTAINERS WHO HAVE INSPIRED BUKA HEAVILY. BEFORE HIS DJ JOURNEY BEGAN, BUKA WAS OFFICIALLY KNOWN AS THE “DANCING BOY” ACROSS ALL BORDERS AS HE CONTINUED TO SWEEP THE DANCE FLOOR WITH HIS CULTURAL AND POP MOVES.
HIS DJ JOURNEY BEGAN IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WHEN BUKA BEGAN TO HELP HIS LATE GODFATHER CARRY HIS DJ EQUIPMENT WHILE HEADING TO DJ GIGS. THIS GREW HIS URGE TO BEGIN HIS DJ JOURNEY. “I REMEMBER TELLING PEOPLE I WANT TO BE A DJ AND ALL THEY DID WAS LAUGH AND WOULDN’T TAKE ME SERIOUSLY,” HE STATED. IN HIGH SCHOOL HE WAS CATEGORIZED AS MOST UNIQUE AND MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED. WITH ALL HIS DREAMS AND ASPIRATIONS IN HIS POCKETS, BUKA DID NOT STOP THERE. HE TOOK A SHOT AT BECOMING A PART TIME DJ THE SUMMER HE FINISHED HIGH SCHOOL; STARTING WITH PERFORMING AT CHURCH EVENTS. AS HIS DESIRE GREW, BUKA BECAME MOTIVATED TO DO MORE. HE BEGAN NETWORKING AND INSERTING HIMSELF IN DIFFERENT SPACES AT A VERY YOUNG AGE WHICH PAVED THE WAY FOR HIM TO EXPAND AND GROW. WHILE ON THIS ADVENTURE HIS GOAL WAS FOR THE WORLD TO HEAR AFRICAN MUSIC BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT HE GREW UP WITH AND IT’S AN UNMATCHED FEELING.
“I NAMED MYSELF THE CULTURAL WOLF BECAUSE I CARRY MY CULTURE ACROSS BORDERS AND WHEN I AM IN MY ENTERTAINER ELEMENT, I LEAVE A MARK. WOLVES ARE KNOWN TO LEAVE MARKS IN AREAS WHILE MIGRATING BUT END UP FINDING THEIR WAY BACK HOME. I WANT TO BE KNOWN AS ONE OF THE GREATEST ENTERTAINERS COMING OUT OF AFRICA AND I WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW THAT AFRICA IS HERE.”
